Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | UOIT Sports Information

UOIT’s season ends in Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ont. - The UOIT men's soccer team had their season come to a crashing halt on Sunday afternoon as they were beat by the Carleton Ravens 7-0 in Ottawa.

Advancing to the OUA quarterfinals for just the second time in program history with a 1-0 win over Laurentian on Wednesday, UOIT was in tough against the first-place Carleton Ravens who earned a first round bye with a 13-1-2 conference record.

Carleton would score at will in the playoff match, recording three goals in the first half and four more in the second half to cruise to the final four.

During the regular season, Carleton scored six or more goals four times and had the most goals of any team in the league with 57 in 16 games. UOIT held them to just three goals combined in their two conference matches.

Dario Conte and Stefan Karajovanovic would record two goals apiece while Tristan St. Pierre, Ricky Comba and Diego Politis each had single goals.

Despite allowing all seven goals against, goalkeeper Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) ended the day with 11 saves. Carleton outshot UOIT 18-3.

Even though the Ridgebacks struggled in their season finale, they have plenty of reasons to keep their heads held high including winning just their second playoff game in program history. In 2017, they set program records for most wins (8) and points (27) in a season, while allowing the fewest goals against (13) in a year. UOIT ended the year with an 8-5-3 conference record, earning at least a point in eight of their last nine games.
