SUDBURY, Ont. – With the OUA eastern conference already locked up, the No. 2 ranked UOIT women's soccer team is tuning up for another postseason run as their conference schedule winds down. On Saturday in Sudbury, UOIT extended their point streak to 15 games with a 2-0 shutout over the Laurentian Voyageurs.
It was a little bit of redemption for the Ridgebacks as Laurentian broke up UOIT's 10-game win streak with a 0-0 draw in Oshawa earlier in the month.
After some early offensive pressure for the Voyageurs, the Ridgebacks responded when
Nicole Zajac (Mississauga, Ont.) found the back of the net in the 34th minute for her sixth goal of the season to put UOIT up 1-0.
The Voyageurs continued with the pressure but again, the Ridgebacks responded with their second of the game, thanks to
Cassandra Sribny's (Pickering, Ont.) seventh goal of the season, putting the Ridgebacks up 2-0.
That would be all of the scoring that would take place for the remainder of the game as the Voyageurs could not put one past Ridgebacks goalkeeper
Victoria Savage who made seven saves in the game.
Savage leads the OUA in save percentage this year as it jumped to .907 after Saturday's clean sheet, her ninth of the year.
Shots would end up even at seven apiece.
UOIT will look to close out the regular season without a loss when they take on the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday at noon. UOIT will host a quarter-final match up next weekend at the Oshawa Civic. The date and opponent will be determined next week.
