OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT men's soccer team was unable to bounce back from an early deficit as the Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the Ridgebacks 5-0 at Vaso's Field on Wednesday night.
Harry Michelis opened the scoring on a tic-tac-toe play, after a free kick, in the seventh minute with the assist going to Devon Bowyer.
Just over ten minutes later Nikolay Saveliev put the Varsity Blues ahead 2-0, a lead that they held into halftime. At the break Toronto was outshooting the Ridgebacks 13-5.
The Varsity Blues had a quick start, with Delano Capobianco scoring in the 54
th minute.
Michelis and Lukas MacNaughton each added a goal to give Toronto their 5-0 victory.
Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) made eight saves in the loss for UOIT, while Mark Rogal made five in the win for Toronto.
The Ridgebacks are in action at home again this weekend at the Oshawa Civic as the Trent Excalibur come to town. Kick off is 3:15 p.m.
