OSHAWA, Ont. – For the third straight day there was some overtime magic at the Campus Ice Centre for the Ridgebacks.
With the men's team winning in overtime on Friday and Saturday night, it was the women's turn on Sunday afternoon.
Sam Forchielli (Hamilton, Ont.) capped off a three-point night 3:47 into double overtime to give the Ridgebacks a 3-2 win over the visiting Ryerson Rams.
Forchielli also scored the game's opening goal just 40 seconds in while assisting on
Nicole LoPresti's (Hamilton, Ont.) game tying goal early in the third period.
With the three-point night, Forchielli extends her point streak to three games while matching a career high in points with 13 on the year.
Ryerson had a gutsy effort in the overtime loss coming into the game dressing only 13 skaters with 10 players currently on the injured list. Emma Rutherford and Kayla Karbonik scored the Ryerson goals 91 seconds apart late in the first period.
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) earned her fifth win of the season making 33 saves.
UOIT picks up back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they move three points behind the York Lions. The last place Rams squad dropped their second straight game after losing 5-2 to Queen's Saturday night.
The Ridgebacks will close out their ninth season in the OUA next Saturday night against the nationally ranked Toronto Varsity Blues. Toronto enters weekend play on a seven-game win streak. Game time for senior's night is 7:30 p.m.
