Three Ridgebacks recognized with OUA men’s soccer awards

BURLINGTON, Ont. – The UOIT men's soccer team had two players named to Ontario University Athletics (OUA) all-star teams, alongside a community service award recipient this morning.

For the first time in program history the Ridgebacks have a men's soccer player named a first-team all-star. Fabio Campoli (Frosinone, Italy) became the player to etch his name in the UOIT history books after scoring 10 goals in 15 games for the Ridgebacks. In his second season he scored nearly half of the team's goals and finished fifth in OUA scoring. Campoli's 10 goals also broke the school's single season record of six that was set a season ago by Erik Petrovic (Sombor, Serbia).

Also announced today, Petrovic has been named a second-team all-star in consecutive seasons. Last season he became UOIT's third men's soccer player to be named a league all-star and is now the second to win the award in back-to-back years. Aldo Maiorano is the only other Ridgeback to win the award in back-to-back seasons (2011 & 2012). In the midfield Petrovic added to his goal total with three, now sitting at 15 as UOIT's all-time leading scorer.

On top of the all-star awards, Mike Bowerman (Oshawa, Ont.) has been named the OUA east community service award winner. An active member of the local community, Bowerman has been volunteering with several local teams – including the Oshawa Turul Soccer Club. Over the summer he also coordinated a group of men's soccer players to hold a one-day soccer camp for campers at Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre in Oshawa.

The Ridgebacks missed the OUA postseason by just one point this season after finishing conference play with five straight ties.
