Nauboris scores twice in a 3-1 road win over Queen’s

KINGSTON, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team earned three big points on the road Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the Queen's Gaels.

"It was a good road victory for the team," said UOIT head coach Justin Caruana. "The team worked hard to bounce back and win in regulation after a tough loss to Brock."

With a 12:30 p.m. start-time for a special Remembrance Day ceremony, the Ridgebacks are now 2-0 in weekday matinees after beating the Toronto Varsity Blues 6-2 in UOIT's school day game.

Queen's would open up scoring midway through the first period when Pickering native Hailey Wilson banged one past Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) in the crease.

In the second period, UOIT would level the score as Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) took a pass from Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.) in the slot and beat Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) along the ice. Samantha Forchielli (Hamilton, Ont.) picked up the second assist.

Nauboris and Cavell would hook up once again in the third period on the power play as the Ridgebacks took a 2-1 lead. Nauboris has six goals this season, one shy of her career best and is second in OUA goal scoring.

With Queen's pressing for the equalizer with their goalie pulled, Nicole Zabel (Palmerston, Ont.) fired the puck from centre ice in the back of the net to score her first career OUA goal.

Queen's first period goal was the only one Campbell would allow as she made 30 saves in her first victory of the season.

UOIT (3-3-2) jumps one point behind the Gaels (4-5-0) for seventh place in the OUA standings. The Ridgebacks are tied with Western (4-4-0) at 11 points, who they will take on next Saturday at the Campus Ice Centre. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
