NORTH YORK, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team opened OUA conference play up with a 4-1 loss to the York Lions. The Ridgebacks will look to turn things around in their home opener Sunday against Nipissing at the Campus Ice Centre. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
 
Despite getting outshot 10-3 in the first period, the Ridgebacks were level with York heading into the break as veteran goaltender Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) kept the Lions off the board.
 
York would quickly reverse their fortunes in the second period as they beat Campbell three times over an eight-minute span. Kelsey McHolm opened up scoring two minutes in which was followed by a power play marker from Jenna Gray. Justine Treadwell would finish off the Lion flurry as she beat Campbell at the 7:46 minute mark.

Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) would score the Ridgebacks lone goal 11:39 in the third period on an unassisted effort. Nauboris led the Ridgebacks in scoring last season with seven goals.
 
York captain Amy Locke closed out the game with an empty netter giving her a three-point night.
 
Campbell had 24 saves in the losing effort while Lauren Dubie stopped all but one of the Ridgebacks' 17 shots for the win.
 
UOIT's power play never had the chance to get rolling as York was not issued a penalty. The Lions power play unit capitalized on one of four attempts.
