PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The UOIT women's field lacrosse team had an impressive weekend in Peterborough as they earned a win and a draw to extend their unbeaten streak to three games.
The Ridgebacks opened up weekend play with an 11-11 tie against the OUA silver medalist Brock Badgers, who entered the game with a perfect 3-0 record.
UOIT held a 9-6 lead with 15 minutes left on the clock, but Brock had four of the next five goals to level the score at 10 goals apiece.
Stephanie Cloutier (Courtice, Ont.) scored to give UOIT an 11-10 lead, but Brock's Samantha Shure of Oshawa responded netting her first goal of the game with just over a minute left to level the score.
Taylor Landry (Whitby, Ont.) had another seven-goal outing, scoring the Ridgebacks first six goals. Once Brock turned their attention to stopping the Ridgeback attacker,
Taylor Milburn (Whitby, Ont.),
Elyse Lockhart (Ajax, Ont.),
Kristen Lemmon (Whitby, Ont.) and Cloutier all chipped in with singles.
Up against the Guelph Gryphons in game two, the Ridgebacks took a narrow 6-5 lead into halftime. UOIT would never relinquish the lead as they beat Guelph 9-7.
Landry had six goals in the win while Lemmon had two. Milburn rounded out scoring for UOIT with a goal and an assist.
UOIT's defence was excellent as they held Guelph to just two second half goals. First year goaltender
Rikki Lund (Oshawa, Ont.) made several big saves over the course of the game to preserve the win.
The Ridgebacks (2-1-1) will have three games on the road next weekend as they travel to Kingston and Toronto.
