KINGSTON, Ont. – The UOIT men's soccer team ran into Queen's at the wrong time as the Gaels managed to extend their win streak to four games with a 1-0 victory over the Ridgebacks Saturday in Kingston.
With the win, Queen's (4-1-2) put some breathing space in between them and the Ridgebacks (3-3-1) as the teams battle it out for home field advantage in the OUA postseason. UOIT is one point up on Nipissing (2-2-3) for fifth place in the standings while trailing Queen's by four.
UOIT failed to score a goal for just the second time this season as Queen's goalkeeper Taylor Reynolds stopped all four shots he faced. At the other end of the field,
Travis Martin (Whitby, Ont.) made three saves in the losing effort.
The Gaels lone goal came in the 27
th minute when last week's CIS athlete of the week Jacob Schroeter scored his fifth goal of the season.
Following the goal, Queen's set up a wall in their defensive zone that limited the Ridgebacks scoring opportunities.
UOIT will look to reboot their offence on Sunday when they take on the RMC Paladins (1-6-0). RMC earned their first win of the year on Saturday as they defeated Trent 1-0.
