OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's field lacrosse season got off to an exciting start as they pulled off a last minute victory over the Trent Excalibur Sunday afternoon at the Oshawa Civic.
Tied 10-10 with 38 seconds left on the clock, 2014 UOIT athlete of the year
Taylor Landry scored her seventh goal of the game to give the Ridgebacks their first win of the year.
Taylor Milburn scored two goals while
Elyse Lockhart notched her first goal as a Ridgeback.
The win came off the heels of a 13-5 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues in an OUA bronze medal rematch. Landry had a hat trick against Toronto while Milburn and Kristin Lemmon scored singles.
Rikki Lund made her debut in goal for the Ridgebacks as she made a number of key stops over the course of the day.
Toronto went 2-0 to open the season as they defeated York 16-3 in their other match of the day. Queen's also went 2-0 with wins over Trent (15-7) and York (13-2).
The Ridgebacks will head to Peterborough next week for matches against the Brock Badgers and Guelph Gryphons. Brock has started the year off with three straight wins while Guelph sits at 0-2.
For the second straight year, UOIT will play host to the OUA championship at the Oshawa Civic. The event is scheduled to run from Oct. 23-25.
