Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. ­– On Saturday night, the UOIT men's hockey team raised $427 for Their Opportunity at their home game against the UQTR Patriotes.
 
The funds raised at the event were generated from a raffle table, which featured prizes from the Oshawa Generals, Brimacombe, Yogurty's and UOIT. In addition, $2.00 from every ticket purchased for the game was donated directly to the charity.
 
"The UOIT Ridgebacks men's hockey team were honoured to help Their Opportunity's fundraising efforts," said Matthew Pasztor, captain of the Ridgebacks men's hockey team. "We have all been very lucky to have had the opportunity to participate in sports growing up. Playing sports is a crucial part of a child's development and should be accessible to all."
 
In attendance that night was Jordan Shaw, a child who was sponsored by Their Opportunity. He was invited by the Ridgebacks for the ceremonial puck drop and to share his story with the spectators at the game about how Their Opportunity has assisted him in playing sports in the community.
 
"We would like to thank all the players and students at UOIT for their support," said Randy Gill, President and CEO of Their Opportunity. "The funds raised will allow us to enrol two more children into organized sports and recreation programs in the community."
 
With the continuous support from the community, Their Opportunity is able to fund kids from low-income families and give them a chance to participate in organized sports.
