NORTH YORK, Ont. – UOIT failed to pick up their second win in as many nights as they fell 5-2 to the York Lions Saturday evening in North York.
UOIT has not won back-to-back games since early October, where they picked up wins over Nipissing and the CIS ranked McGill Redmen in just their second and third games of the season.
On Friday against Brock, UOIT opened up the first period with three goals. On Saturday, the Ridgebacks role was reversed as York got off to the hot start, taking a three-goal lead into the locker room after 20 minutes.
Looking for a comeback effort,
James Woodcroft (Milton, Ont.) would score twice for UOIT over the next two periods, but the Ridgebacks could not overcome the early deficit. This marked Woodcroft's first multi-goal game of his career.
Jordan Ramsay (Pickering, Ont.) recorded two assists, capping off a three-point weekend.
In goal, Chris Perugini stopped 18 of 20 Ridgeback shots on net for his eighth win of the season.
Both teams scored on power play goal, as the special teams units each went 1-for-4 with the man advantage. UOIT's penalty killers were excellent to start 2015 as they fought off 10 of 11 power play opportunities.
The Ridgebacks remain in a tie for sixth place with the Queen's Gaels with matching 8-10-1 records. The Gaels lost their fifth straight game with a 6-4 scoreline in Brock tonight.
UOIT will welcome a pair of western conference opponents to the Campus Ice Centre next weekend as they host the Waterloo Warriors (Friday) and Laurier Golden Hawks (Saturday). Game time on both nights is 7:30 p.m.
