TORONTO – The UOIT men's soccer team could not find a way to stop OUA athlete of the week Kilian Elkinson (Toronto) on Wednesday afternoon as they suffered a 5-1 loss to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.

Coming off a two-goal weekend, Elkinson continued his hot-streak as he scored a hat-trick in Wednesday's contest. His final goal of the game came in the 88th minute, putting an exclamation point on his great performance.

UOIT faltered early as the Varsity Blues scored two goals in the opening twenty minutes of the game. Lukas MacNaughton (Brussels, Belgium) recorded his first goal of the season at the 14-minute mark followed by Elkinson's first three minutes later.

After UOIT had settled into the game and were generating some offensive pressure, Toronto turned the ball up the field in which Elkinson struck again to give the Varsity Blues a 3-0 lead at the half.

After Toronto extended their lead to 4-0, UOIT finally got on the board when Lee-Victor Massunda (Mississauga, Ont.) beat a Toronto defender and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net in the 77th minute. Massunda has a goal and an assist in his first two games as a Ridgeback.

Toronto would finish the game with 12 shots attempted compared to just six by UOIT. Travis Martin (Whitby, Ont.) allowed all five Toronto goals.

The loss is UOIT's first of the regular season as they drop to 0-1-1. Toronto is in first place in the OUA east region with a 2-0-1 record.

The Ridgebacks will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon when they host the Trent Excalibur (0-1-0). Game time at Vaso's Field is 3:15 p.m.
