UOIT settles for a draw against Nipissing OUA Men's Soccer: UOIT tied Nipissing 1-1 NORTH BAY, Ont. – The UOIT men's soccer team surrendered a late goal and had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday afternoon.
With the point, UOIT (1-4-3) remains three behind the Lakers (2-3-3) for fifth place in the OUA eastern conference standings. Laurentian (2-4-2) moved into sole possession of sixth place as they defeated Trent (1-6-1) 1-0 for their second victory of the weekend.
Erik Petrovic (Sombor, Serbia) recorded his third goal of the season in the 57
th minute on a penalty kick, giving the Ridgebacks a 1-0 lead. Petrovic is 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this season.
UOIT would hold on to the lead until the 80
th minute, when Nipissing's Mathieu Simard beat
Travis Martin (Whitby, Ont.) to knot up the score.
Scoring chances were relatively even with Nipissing edging out UOIT 5-4 in shots on target. All of UOIT's shots came in the final 45 minutes.
The Ridgebacks will begin the second half of their season on Saturday when they host the Queen's Gaels (5-2-1). Kick-off for UOIT's homecoming game is 3:15 p.m.
