Ridgebacks close out preseason with another draw
KINGSTON, Ont. – For the second straight game, the UOIT Ridgebacks men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw as they matched up against the Concordia Stingers on Monday afternoon.
The teams were on a level playing field as they both travelled to Kingston for their preseason match. The score also reflected how equal the teams were as they traded goals throughout the 90-minute match to finish in a draw.
Fourth-year striker
Andrew Serediuk (Mississauga, Ont.) got the Ridgebacks on the board with a beautiful strike from 40-yards out late in the first half. UOIT is hoping that Serediuk can continue to contribute offensively throughout the year much like he did in his freshman season when he finished second on the team in goals scored.
After Concordia scored back-to-back goals, UOIT found themselves down 2-1 for the second straight game. This time, freshman
Andrea Cicciarella (Pickering, Ont.) stepped up for UOIT as he scored the game-tying goal.
With four games in the books, head coach
Vaso Vujanovic has been pleased with his team's effort heading into the season. Despite being such a young team, the players have shown a lot of maturity by training hard and having a team-first attitude.
This was the Ridgebacks final preseason game as they head into conference play with an 0-1-3 record. UOIT will open up the regular season at home against the Carleton Ravens on Sunday, August 31. Carleton finished last season with an 8-3-3 conference record. Game time at Vaso's Field is 3:15 p.m.
