UOIT records second straight preseason shutout TORONTO – The UOIT women's soccer team posted their second straight cleansheet of the preseason as they defeated the Humber Hawks 2-0 in Toronto Friday afternoon.
Freshman
Jordan Thornton (Ajax, Ont.) had her most impressive outing of the preseason as she chipped in on both UOIT goals. Thornton got the Ridgebacks on the board in the 30th minute with a long-range shot. In the second half, Thornton sent a ball along the 18-yard box to sophomore
Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) who was able to score her second goal of the preseason and add some insurance.
Melissa Linton (Cobourg, Ont.) earned the shutout in net for UOIT.
Humber is annually one of the top teams in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), having won the league title in three of the past four years.
Following the pair of shutout wins, UOIT is 2-1-0 in preseason action with their only loss coming against the defending OUA champion Laurier Golden Hawks. The Ridgebacks have outscored their opponents 8-2.
UOIT's final tune-up game before the start of the regular season is scheduled Monday, August 25 against the Concordia Stingers. It will be a neutral site game as it is set to take place in Kingston. Kick off is at 4 p.m.
