Defending champs beat UOIT in preseason opener WATERLOO, Ont. - In a rematch of the OUA quarterfinals from one season ago, the UOIT women's soccer team would once again fall to the Laurier Golden Hawks as they were defeated 2-1 in their preseason opener.
It was a good test for the Ridgebacks to start their season as they traveled down the 401 to take on the defending OUA champions after only two days of training camp.
UOIT battled hard over the course of the 90-minute game but just fell short as Laurier's Jacky Normandeau, a second year defender, scored off a corner kick late in the second half to give the Golden Hawks their first non-conference win of the year.
The teams played to a level 1-1 draw after 45 minutes, with third year midfielder
Sara Voisin (Waterloo, Ont.) scoring for the Ridgebacks. Two-time CIS All-Canadian Emily Brown recorded Laurier's first half marker.
UOIT will resume their preseason against the Windsor Lancers on Tuesday, August 19 at Civic Fields in Oshawa. The match will begin at 3 p.m. followed by the men's game at 5:15 p.m.
