The Ridgebacks split action at the Oshawa Civic on Saturday, opening the day up with a 16-0 shutout over the York Lions followed up with a 14-7 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues. The opening victory over York was
Jenn Daly's (Ajax, Ont.) first shutout in goal.
On Sunday in Kingston, UOIT picked up a pair of victories beating McMaster 10-8 and Trent 11-10. This was the first time in program history that the Ridgebacks defeated both McMaster and Trent.
"The entire team played a big role in our success this weekend," said co-head coach
Liane Chornobay. "The team had to dig deep through nagging injuries and a short bench to pick up three wins. Amy (Fincham) and I could not be more proud."
Taylor Landry of Whitby had 18 goals and three assists over the weekend and proved to not only dominate on attack, but also be a huge factor defensively, as she constantly caused turnovers. In UOIT's win over Trent, Landry scored six of UOIT's 11 goals.
Up next for UOIT is a trip to the University of Toronto for a match against the Western Mustangs on Sunday, October 19. Game time is at 12:45 p.m.
The Ridgebacks are proud to host the OUA championship at Civic Fields in Oshawa from October 31 to November 2.
