OUA Women's Hockey: York defeated UOIT 2-0 NORTH YORK, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team dropped their second straight game as the Ridgebacks were shutout by the York Lions 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions got on the board early in their home opener, when Chelsea Tucker scored her first career goal two and a half minutes into the contest. It looked as if UOIT goaltender
Cassie Charette (Ottawa, Ont.) had covered the puck, but the referee was late on the whistle and Tucker was able to poke the puck in the back of the net.
UOIT would have several good scoring attempts to tie the game up in the period, but York goaltender Megan Lee stopped every shot she faced.
The Ridgebacks continued to dominate play early in the second period, by Lee continue to stand on her head to keep the Ridgebacks scoreless. With five minutes left in the frame, York would capitalize on a transition play as Lisa Stathopulos scored a breakaway goal.
UOIT fired 13 shots on goal over the final 20 minutes, but could not find a way to beat Lee as she earned her first shutout of the season. Shots finished 28-26 in favour of the Ridgebacks.
Both penalty-killing units were effective as York was 0-for-7 with the man-advantage while UOIT was 0-for-5.
