Ridgebacks lose the battle of top-ranked teams

OUA Women's Soccer: Ottawa defeated UOIT 4-0

OTTAWA – In a match-up of the top two teams in the OUA eastern conference, the No. 2 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees ended up with a convincing 4-0 victory over the No. 4 ranked UOIT women's soccer team.

After starting the season with 13 games without a loss, UOIT (11-2-2) has now dropped two straight decisions heading into their regular season finale on Sunday against Carleton (7-4-4). Ottawa (14-1-0) clinches first place in the conference as they have won 14 straight games. UOIT is the only team this year to hand Ottawa a loss, as the Ridgebacks picked up a 3-2 opening day victory over the Gee-Gees.

The Ridgebacks came out flat on Saturday, with Ottawa seizing control of the game as Pilar Khoury scored just two minutes in. Six minutes later, Ottawa doubled up their lead when Morgan McNeil scored her first goal since September 14th.

Ottawa continued to control the tempo of the game, as they added a pair of second half goals. Sophie Curtis would get on the scoresheet at the 78-minute mark, while Khoury recorded her second goal of the game. The second-half strike was Khoury's 14th of the year, as she leads the OUA eastern conference in scoring.

The Gee-Gees' four-goal performance matches the highest total UOIT has allowed against in the three-year history of the program. During their inaugural season in the OUA (2012), the Ridgebacks dropped a 4-1 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks. Saturday's loss is also the largest margin of defeat in UOIT women's soccer program history.

Ottawa outshot UOIT 16-10 in the victory, with Ottawa goalkeeper Cynthia LeBlanc stopping four shots on target. LeBlanc has not allowed a goal against in ten straight appearances.
