Campus Cup Women's Soccer: UOIT defeated Durham 2-0

OSHAWA, Ont. - The UOIT Ridgebacks women's soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout victory over the Durham Lords to win the Campus Cup played in front of a packed house at Vaso's Field on Thursday night.

"What a successful night on Campus," said Durham College & UOIT athletic director Ken Babcock. "It was great to see all of the pride and school spirit demonstrated by the student body. Both teams played a great game and they should be proud of their performances tonight."

The win marked UOIT's first ever women's soccer Campus Cup title, as Durham College won the inaugural match last season.

Freshman Emily Copeland-Dinan of Ottawa scored the Ridgebacks first goal of the game in injury time of the first half, which eventually turned out to be the game winner.

Another Ridgeback freshman Cassandra Sribny of Pickering added an insurance marker for UOIT with five minutes left in the game, giving her team the 2-0 victory.

Laura Whelan (St. John's, N.L.) earned the shutout for UOIT, stopping every Durham shot she faced.

It was a large crowd at Vaso's Field as students, faculty members, staff, alumni, family and friends filled up the sidelines.

UOIT will resume their regular season schedule this weekend as they head to southwestern Ontario for matches against Western (Saturday) and Windsor (Sunday).
