UOIT falls to Western in men's soccer

OUA Men's Soccer: Western defeated UOIT 3-0

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks men's soccer team could not rebound after a slow start as the Western Mustangs earned a 3-0 victory at Vaso's Field Sunday afternoon.

Western stormed out to a 3-0 lead over the Ridgebacks with Filippo Iuliani (10'), Aaron Schneebeli (19') and Oliver Richardson (21') scoring for the Mustangs. Western's first two goals were bullets from just outside the box as the UOIT defenders failed to put any pressure on the Mustang shooters.

Western would outshoot UOIT 7-0 in the first half, with starting UOIT starting goalkeeper Travis Martin (Whitby, Ont.) being replaced due to an injury at the 39-minute mark.

In the second half, the game was evenly matched with Western holding a slight 4-3 advantage in shots. Goaltenders Adam Majer (Western) and Karan Thaker (UOIT) stopped all seven shots they faced as the game finished with a score of 3-0 in favour of the Mustangs.

Western is 4-3-2 this season while the Ridgebacks sit in seventh place with a 1-8-1 record.

UOIT will head to St. Catharines next Saturday to take on the Brock Badgers (0-7-3).
