OUA Women's Soccer: Laurier defeated UOIT 2-1

OSHAWA, Ont. - The UOIT women's soccer team could not hold off the No. 9 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 2-1 decision at Vaso's Field.

2012 CIS All-Canadian Emily Brown scored the game-winning goal 15 minutes into the second half, as she headed in a beautiful cross that came from the wing.

UOIT got off to a strong start when Nicole Zajac (Mississauga, Ont.) scored her first career goal 20 minutes into the contest. Laurier would respond ten minutes later when Kiara Reyes lobbed one over the head of goalkeeper Melissa MacKinnon (Millgrove, Ont.).

UOIT would push everyone forward in the final minutes of the game but would come up just short, missing a couple of strikes by just inches.

MacKinnon finished the game stopping four Golden Hawk shots on target. Katrina Ward earned the win in net for Laurier, stopping five shots in her fourth victory of the season.

Laurier improves to 4-1-2 on the year, as they move into second place in the OUA western conference. UOIT slips to 1-4-2 after dropping their second straight game.

Things will not get any easier for UOIT as they head to Guelph on Sunday to take on the first place Gryphons (5-2-0). Game time at the Gryphon Soccer Complex is 1 p.m.
