Top-ranked Lions upend the Ridgebacks

OUA Men's Soccer: York defeated UOIT 4-0

NORTH YORK, Ont. – The No. 1 ranked York University men's soccer team was too strong for UOIT on Sunday afternoon as they won by a score of 4-0 in North York.

The Ridgebacks came out hard against the top-ranked team in the country and trailed by only one goal after 45 minutes. In the second half, the floodgates would open up as York scored three consecutive goals over a 15-minute stretch.

Goal scorers for the Lions included Mark-Anthony Kaye (11'), Jonathan Lao (59') and Domenic Gullo (73'). Jerome Green had an own goal 63 minutes into the game.

UOIT was outshot 8-3 with goalkeeper Travis Martin (Port Perry, Ont.) making four saves for the Ridgebacks in the loss. All three UOIT shots were taken by striker Justin Gordon.

York has outscored their opponents 21-3 this season, as they sit in first place in the OUA western conference. Sunday's win was their fifth of the season.

The Ridgebacks sit in seventh place in the OUA western conference with a 1-4-1 record. UOIT's next game is scheduled for Saturday, September 21 against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Game time for UOIT homecoming is 3:15 p.m.
