UOIT and Waterloo battle to a draw
OUA Women's Soccer: UOIT tied Waterloo 1-1
OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's soccer team didn't have their best performance on Friday night but still managed to salvage a point as they tied the University of Waterloo 1-1.
The night started out on a promising note for UOIT as freshman
Kayla De Souza (Scarborough, Ont.) knocked in one-timer off a free kick, giving the Ridgebacks a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes. The goal was De Souza's first in her OUA career.
Just ten minutes later, Waterloo would get fouled in the box, sending midfielder Adrienne Goldsworthy to the penalty kick line. Goldsworthy would capitalize on the opportunity as she beat Melissa MacKinnon (Millgrove, Ont.) to level the score.
In the second half, the teams combined for just three shots on goal, as the teams were unable to break the deadlock.
UOIT finished with six shots on target while Waterloo had three.
Coming out with a draw was a bit of relief for the Warriors, as they headed into the contest losing their first four games. UOIT currently sits in sixth place in the OUA western conference with a 1-2-2 record.
The Ridgebacks will look to get back to the .500 mark on Sunday afternoon as they head to North York to take on the York Lions. York is winless in five games this season with a 0-2-3 record.
