OUA Men's Soccer: UOIT tied Brock 1-1

OSHAWA, Ont. – Sebastian Dignoti (Oshawa, Ont.) scored a late goal on Saturday to give the UOIT men's soccer team a 1-1 draw against Brock in their 2013 home opener.

With UOIT trailing 1-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining in the game, Dignoti managed to shake away a Brock defender and put the ball past veteran goalkeeper Jake Sweetzer to level the score.

The teams traded chances down the stretch but were both unable to strike again as the final result ended in a 1-1 tie.

UOIT starting goalkeeper Matt Caldaroni (Pickering, Ont.) let in Brock's lone goal 32 minutes into the game, as Erik Van Wissen scored the fifth goal of his career. Caldaroni turned aside 3-of-4 shots in the first half, before being replaced by Travis Martin (Whitby, Ont.) due to an injury. Martin stopped both shots he faced in the second half to earn the draw.

Sweetzer, who is in his senior year with the Badgers, stopped 9-of-10 UOIT shots on target. Over half of UOIT's shots were off the foot of Dignoti.

UOIT will be back in action on home turf on Wednesday, September 4 as they host the Guelph Gryphons at 6 p.m. Guelph is the only team in the OUA western conference to have not played a game, as they start their regular season on Monday at home against McMaster.
