OUA Women's Field Lacrosse Championship
Game One: McMaster defeated UOIT 11-8
Game Two: UOIT defeated York 14-6

KINGSTON, Ont. – The UOIT women's field lacrosse team earned their first ever victory at the OUA championship this weekend in Kingston. After a tough 11-8 loss to McMaster in the opening round, UOIT turned things around with a 14-6 victory over the York Lions.

The game was closer than the scoreboard showed as the teams headed into half all-square at 4-4. The second half was a different story as the Ridgebacks would explode for 10 goals while holding York to just two.

Taylor Milburn (Whitby, Ont.) scored four goals to lead the Ridgebacks while Kristen Bright (Whitby, Ont.) added three of her own.

The Lions offence was almost entirely supplied by Staci Crozier who had five of the Lions' six goals and added an assist on the other. Goaltender Tessa Lam (Brooklin, Ont.) did a great job of stopping all but two York shots in the second half.

The six-goal win is UOIT's largest margin of victory in program history.

In the Ridgebacks opening game against McMaster, Brittany Simmons (Whitby, Ont.) struck first but the Marauders responded with five straight goals. Simmons would add another for the Ridgebacks but McMaster managed to hang on for the 11-8 victory.  Bright would record a hat-trick for UOIT in the loss.

The Ridgebacks continue to show signs of improvement as they look to become a championship contender in the OUA. At last year's championship, UOIT was outscored 20-12 in two losses against the same opponents.

Western would end up winning their third straight championship banner with a 13-8 victory over Guelph in the gold medal match.
