Nationally ranked Marauders shuts down UOIT

OUA Men's Soccer: McMaster defeated UOIT 3-0

HAMILTON, Ont. – The UOIT men's soccer team could not pull off an upset over the nationally ranked McMaster Marauders as they dropped a 3-0 decision in Hamilton.

After scoring three goals against Brock on Saturday, the Ridgebacks could not maintain their scoring touch as Angelo Cavalluzzo picked up the shutout for the Marauders.

Gersi Xhuti opened up scoring for McMaster 20 minutes into the game, as he recorded his 16th career goal. Six minutes later, the Ridgebacks ran into a little bit of bad luck as they had an own goal, giving McMaster a 2-0 first half lead.

McMaster would go on and add a late goal with three minutes left in the game, as Nathaniel Morris recorded his third goal of the season.

Karan Thaker got the start in net for UOIT and made six saves in the losing effort.

McMaster has won two straight games including a 1-0 win over the No. 1 ranked York Lions on Saturday. The Marauders are 8-2-2 this season while the Ridgebacks fall to 1-10-1.

UOIT and McMaster will have a rematch next Friday night in Oshawa. Kick-off at Vaso's Field is 8 p.m.
