OSHAWA, Ont. - The UOIT women's lacrosse team hosted several OUA competitors on Saturday at the Civic Recreation Complex in Oshawa.

The Ridgebacks opened the day against Trent in a tightly contested match. UOIT entered half with a 4-3 lead on the strength of three goals from Britt Simmons (Whitby, Ont.). Simmons would lead the Ridgebacks in scoring finishing the game with five goals.

The second half saw teams continue to exchange goals including four lead changes. However, UOIT ended up on the wrong side of the final lead change and fell 9-8. Other UOIT goal scorers included Kristen Bright (Whitby, Ont.) who recorded two goals and Taylor Milburn (Whitby, Ont.). Goalkeeper Tessa Lam (Brooklin, Ont.) was named game MVP for the Ridgebacks.

In their second and final match of the day, UOIT faced off with the perennial powerhouse Laurier Golden Hawks. Laurier jumped out to a quick lead and tested the Ridgebacks throughout the match. UOIT was led by Milburn (Whitby, Ont.) who recorded two goals and was named Ridgebacks game MVP in the 11-4 loss. Other UOIT goal scorers included Bright and Jill Carroll (Whitby, Ont.).

Other results from the day included:

Queen's defeated McGill 17- 7
Queen's defeated York 10-5
Laurier defeated McGill 17-8


The Ridgebacks will next travel to Scarborough on Sunday to face Brock before taking part in another tournament in London on Saturday, October 12 where they will challenge the McMaster and the hosting Western Mustangs.
