Ridgebacks spook Brock to pick up their fifth straight road victory


OUA Women's Hockey: UOIT defeated Brock 5-2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team improved to 5-0 on the road this season as they picked up a 5-2 victory over the Brock Badgers on Thursday night.

The Ridgebacks broke out of a three-game losing streak with the win, with all of their losses coming at home. Brock on the other hand continues to slide as they have dropped eight straight games to start the season while being outscored 9-28.

Heading into the third period tied 2-2 in Thursday's contest, the Ridgebacks offence exploded with three straight goals. On the power play, Nicole LoPresti (Hamilton, Ont.) scored her second goal of the year at the 5:18 minute mark, which turned out to be the game winner. Annie Moynes (Belleville, Ont.) would score her first career goal three minutes later, and Jill Morillo (Whitby, Ont.) added some insurance with six minutes left. Moynes and Morillo each finished with a goal and an assist in the win.

Sarah Worthington (Whitby, Ont.) and Sam Forchielli (Hamilton, Ont.) scored second period goals for UOIT. With four goals this season, Forchielli is tied for sixth in OUA scoring.

Assistant captain Jaclyn Gibson (Cobourg, Ont.) had three assists in the win, as she has recorded a point in six of eight UOIT games. She has 11 points this season and is tied for first on the OUA scoring charts.

Jessica Fickel scored both of Brock's goals.

2013 OUA all-rookie Cassie Charette (Ottawa, Ont.) made 35 saves in her first win of the year, which included stopping all seven Badger shots in the third period. Claire Shaw made 23 saves for Brock in the losing effort. UOIT outshot Brock 17-7 in the final frame.

UOIT (5-3-0) will be back on the road on Friday night when they travel to Guelph to take on the No. 9 ranked Gryphons. Guelph is 5-2-0 this season and on a two-game winning streak.
