OUA Men's Soccer: York defeated UOIT 4-1

OSHAWA, Ont. – After a late start on Thursday at Civic Fields in Oshawa, UOIT and York finally finished their rescheduled men's soccer match as the Lions walked off the pitch with a 4-1 victory.

The No. 3 ranked Lions struck three times in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Mark-Anthony Kaye (13'), Joey Cicchillo (27') and Giancarlo Rella (28') were the goal scorers for York. Kaye has scored nine goals in 12 games this season to sit third in OUA western conference scoring.

UOIT striker Justin Gordon (Pickering, Ont.) would cut into the York lead at the 62-minute mark as he scored on a penalty kick. Tonight's goal was the tenth in Gordon's career.

York would manage to pull away with ten minutes left on the clock when Darren Gertiesingh scored his first career goal.

York, who improves to 11-2-1 this year, outshot UOIT 16-4.

UOIT goalkeeper Karan Thaker (Brampton, Ont.) was busy in net as he turned aside 12 shots on target in the losing effort.

Thursday was a make-up game for yesterday's scheduled match which was postponed due to poor field conditions on Campus.

The Ridgebacks fall to 2-12-1 this season and sit in seventh place in the OUA western conference standings. UOIT's season finale is on Sunday, October 20 against the Windsor Lancers. Game time at Civic Fields in Oshawa is 3:15 p.m.
