Butler is the former head golf professional at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, the home course of the UOIT Ridgebacks. He managed all aspects the golf operation and ensured the club was in touch with the latest golf techniques and equipment for its members.

Having been a member of the Canadian Professional Golf Association (CPGA) since 1994, Butler has plenty experience playing and teaching golf at a high level.

He started as an assistant professional at the Oshawa Golf & Curling Club for a three-year term, and then moved to the Royal Ottawa Golf Club as an assistant/associate professional in 1997.

In 2000, he moved to the Peterborough Golf & Curling Club as the head golf professional for two years, before returning to Oshawa in 2002. Butler left Oshawa Golf and Curling Club in 2015 for a career in real estate.Â
