The Whitby native is a former NCAA student-athlete, playing for the Lake Superior State University golf team. During that time, he was the team captain in his junior and senior years.

Prior to his NCAA playing experience, he was the U17 Golf Ontario and Ontario Summer Games champion, as well as the recipient of the Mike Weir Trophy.

As a coach, MacIver coached the Lake Superior women's golf team in 2019-20, leading them to their first team victory. He has also been heavily involved with golf at Oshawa Golf and Curling Club in a variety of roles. Currently he is the assistant golf professional, but has also held the role of junior coordinator.
