Austin Nyenhuis began playing badminton in 2010 and was an active member during high school at Stratford and Kitchener clubs (WOBA). For the past three years Austin has continued his academic studies at Trent University and is one of the leaders of that school’s competitive badminton club while also competing as a member of Peterborough Badminton Club. In addition, Austin has assumed coaching leadership roles at Peterborough Club under the direction of Eric Ingram and has organized several tournaments at both Peterborough and Stratford clubs.
Â
In 2014, Austin joined the Independent University and College badminton circuit (IUCC) and was soon recruited by coach King as an assistant coach/demonstrator for junior clinics. He has worked both at Thunder Bay and Ajax as a skills demonstrator, has worked as a tournament referee in both Kawartha and LOSSA school tournaments and is certified as a tournament line judge. Thus in a very short time, Austin has become proficient in many areas of our sport.
Â
In late 2015, Austin began to train within a high performance programme under the direction of coach King and has improved his badminton skills since that time due to his commitment to training and competitive tournaments and is a very confident athlete at every tournament.
Â
In June 2016 Austin was approached by Li Ning Canada and is currently district sales agent for the Peterborough, Northumberland, Kawartha, Durham and Victoria -Haliburton regions.
Â
Within the UOIT programme, Austin will develop the team’s practice warmups, footwork drills, a large part of the physical off court training and on court individual coaching assistance. Austin will be a positive role model for the student athletes as we work hard to develop the UOIT brand.
