Andy Lam brings a wealth of national and international experience to the Ridgeback varsity badminton program and will provide excellent on court sparring for our team athletes.
Coach Lam was a bronze medallist in men’s doubles at the 2004 OFSAA championship at Ajax High School and then moved on to University of Toronto where he was named OUA All-Star in 2007, 2008 and 2009. During his OUA badminton career, Andy rose to the rank of No. 3 in Canada in the U-23 category and finished fifth in the 2009 Canadian university championship at Laval University.
After graduation, Lam joined Lee’s Badminton Club (Markham) and trained extensively under national coach Jennifer Lee from 2009 to 2015. During that time frame, he was part of Badminton Canada’s elite programme with a national ranking of second in men’s singles, fourth in men’s doubles and a provincial Ontario ranking of No. 2 in both men’s singles and doubles.
Coach Lam also has extensive coaching experience at various levels: he has been badminton professional at Lee’s Badminton (Markham), Toronto B&R Badminton, Mandarin Badminton and Su’s Badminton. Andy has worked with badminton athletes of all ages and levels and has coached/developed junior provincial and national level athletes. He is known for his energizing and motivating coaching style and his professionalism both on and off court.
Most recently, Andy was assistant coach with Toronto’s Varsity Blues (2015-2016) where he was part of the 2016 OUA gold medal championship. Coach Lam is certified as a NCCP Level 2 badminton coach.
