OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team hosted the Laurentian Voyageurs Friday night and were unable to come away with their third straight win as the Ridgebacks fell 1-0 in a hard-fought game.
The loan goal of the game came from Natalie Lamarche, just two minutes into the second period and was assisted by Sara Habal.
This game was one that the Ridgebacks would have liked to win looking ahead in their schedule where they have a few tough matchups coming up.
"I thought we were the better team out there for most of it, we just aren't putting pucks in the back of the net," said Ridgebacks head coach
Justin Caruana.
Coach made a good point, as the Ridgebacks had a total of 14 power play minutes throughout the game but were unable to capitalize on these opportunities. "We need to be doing a better job on our power play as a whole, on the players end and the coaches end. We are definitely going to work on that."
That being said, the Voyageurs goalie, Karen Collins, was red hot in net as she stone walled the Ridgebacks. Collins faced a total of 39 shots and was able to stop every one of them, earning herself the shutout win.
Ridgebacks goalie,
Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.), also played very well stopping 17 of 18 shots and keeping the deficit to just one goal.
Looking ahead, the Ridgebacks will hope to turn things around as they play the Nipissing Lakers Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Campus Ice Centre for Whitby Girls Hockey Appreciation Day.
