Laurier earns three points as they hold off the Ridgebacks
OUA Men's Soccer: Laurier defeated UOIT 4-1
WATERLOO, Ont. – The Laurier Golden Hawks earned their second victory over the UOIT men's soccer team in less than a week as they beat the Ridgebacks by a score of 4-1 in Waterloo.
After a scoreless first half, Laurier would go on to score four second half goals to earn their fourth win of the year.
Justin Gordon (Pickering, Ont.) scored UOIT's lone goal off a penalty kick during the 72nd minute to cut the Golden Hawk lead to just 2-1. With UOIT looking for the equalizer late in the game, Laurier would add two insurance markers in the final two minutes of play to pull away and earn three points in the standings.
Travis Martin (Whitby, Ont.) was handed the loss as he stopped seven of Laurier's 11 shots on target. MacKenzie Craig made three saves on three shots, prior to seeing a red card. Brett Harrington came into the game for Craig and only allowed the one goal off Gordon's penalty kick.
Laurier sits alone in fourth place in the OUA western conference with a 4-2-3 record while UOIT just out of the playoff picture in seventh place with a 1-7-1 record.
UOIT's next action is at home against the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off at Vaso's Field is 3 p.m.
