UOIT opens up their season with a scoreless draw
Men's Soccer: UOIT tied Humber 0-0 *Exhibition Match
OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks defensive unit looked strong in their season debut as they tied the CCAA national champion Humber Hawks on Sunday afternoon in men's soccer exhibition action.
Head coach
Vaso Vujanovic made sure his entire team saw playing time throughout the preseason match to allow his coaches to go over the game tape and evaluate the lineup heading into their OUA season opener scheduled for Saturday, August 31st against Brock University.
Both sides had a number of chances throughout the 90-minute game but were unable to break the 0-0 deadlock.
UOIT goalkeepers
Matt Caldaroni (Pickering, Ont.) and
Travis Martin (Port Perry, Ont.) split time in between the pipes. Both keepers played aggressively as they challenged the Humber strikers and kept them at bay. The duo combined to make eight stops over the course of the game.
The Ridgebacks will look to build off the draw as they continue preseason action on Wednesday night when they host the Trent Excalibur at Oshawa Civic Fields. Game time is 8 p.m.
UOIT had a scare midway through the second half when 2013 rookie of the year
Declan Weir (Whitby, Ont.) was subbed out due to an injury. He will be evaluated by the athletic therapy staff and be a game-time decision against Trent.
